Bangladesh government cancelled the contractual appointment of M Shahidul Islam as the ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States from September 1, 2022.

Public administration ministry published a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday, October 20, 2022.

He was appointed as the ambassador of Bangladesh to the US in September, 2020.

He was a career foreign service officer belonging to the 1985 batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service foreign affairs cadre.

It was a contractual appointment on political considerations as Shahidul went on retirement from regular Foreign Service in June 2020.
